PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commutator, a rotary electric machine, and a manufacturing method of the commutator, capable of preventing disturbance of rectification, degradation in motor efficiency, and occurrence of vibration at an armature, and also capable of reducing a slipping noise of a brush and abnormal wear of the brush. SOLUTION: A commutator 23 is manufactured with a sintered material whose main component is copper with an additive mixed, by simultaneously dividing segments 46 using a mold. A rough surface 52 is formed on a brush sliding surface of each segment 46 at the time of molding. The edge part of each segment 46 is rounded at the time of molding. The additive is contained more on the lower stream side than on an upper stream side in the sliding direction of brush, of the segment 46. Thus, the sliding performance between a brush 38 and the peripheral surface of the commutator 23 improves, and the slipping noise of the brush 38 and the abnormal wearing of the brush 38 are reduced, preventing occurrence of sparking at rectification.
