1,102,841. Gas filter for bacteria-proof bag. F. LINDER. 21, June, 1966 [24, June, 1965], No. 27666/66. Heading B1T. [Also in Divisions A5 and B8] A bacteria proof plastics bag has a valve opening 2 in a side Wall 1 covered by a bacteria filter 12, which consists of a gas permeable layer 3 such as wrapping paper, and an adhesive layer 4, the latter of which melts at elevated temperatures to allow gases from the interior of the bag to pass through during sterilisation. A foil 6 having a plurality of holes 5 is secured over the filter 12 and to the bag wall 1 by means of a heat resistant adhesive 7. In operation, an object such as a medical instrument is enclosed within the bag, which is sterilised and subsequently evacuated in a steam autoclave, the air and steam escaping from the bag through the filter 12 and through the holes 5 in the foil 6. After sterilisation and evacuation, the adhesive layer 4 of the filter 12 solidifies so that no bacteria can enter the bag. |
