PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can correctly detect a recording position of a recording medium and can keep constant a recording position where to record. SOLUTION: A gap width (PG) of the recording medium is set. An optical sensor is set in a transfer route, and position information of the transferred recording medium is detected. An output value (Va, Vb) of the optical sensor is compared with a threshold value (Vth). A detected gap width (AG) corresponding to the set gap width (PG) is acquired. The threshold value (Vth) is changed so that the detected gap width (AG) agrees with the set gap width (PG). Thus the recording position of the recording medium can be correctly detected, and the recording position where to record can be kept constant. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
