A rubber preform(2) and a ring(3) are placed in a molding ring(4). One or more tool segments(7) are positioned on the inner side of the rubber preform and the latter is vulcanized at the edge of the ring. Heat for vulcanization of the rubber onto the ring is supplied via the molding ring and tool segments. The tool segment(7) comprises several part sections which move in the radial direction of the support(1). Some sections are smaller than others when viewed from above. Smaller sections are located radially inside larger sections surrounding them. The tool segment is pressed against the inside of the rubber preform(2) by a pressure plate(10) acting in the axial direction of the support body to produce the final shape of the support. Guides direct the tool segment in the axial direction of the support. Heat for vulcanization is fed from electrical heating elements in the tool ring(4). The rubber ring may be preheated prior to placing in the tool ring. A cooling system(12) is arranged on the ring body(3). An independent claim is included for the process equipment which includes a tool ring(4) with at least one inner tool segment(7) on the inner side and heating supplied from both.
