<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method for effectively re-entering an engine into an exhaust gas recirculation mode. <P>SOLUTION: The control device of the internal combustion engine (engine) on which the exhaust gas recirculation system is mounted predicts at least one of an intake manifold temperature in the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) mode and an intake manifold pressure in the EGR mode or desirably both of them in the boost mode operation. When an intake manifold critical temperature in the EGR at which condensation occurs is calculated, these predictions are used. Next, the control device compares the predicted temperature value with a calculated intake manifold critical temperature, when the predicted temperature is larger than the calculated temperature, the control device instructs a re-entry into the EGR mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
