PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an apparatus structure, while improving the heat efficiency of a fixing unit and preventing diffusion of heat from the fixing unit. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes the fixing unit 2 having a heating means and a fixing roller 3 which conveys recording paper passing through the fixing unit 2. The image forming apparatus further includes: a fixing unit frame 7 which covers the fixing roller 3 and has openings 7a and 7b on a paper path; an outlet shutter 8 and an inlet shutter 18 which open or close the openings 7a and 7b; springs 12 which press the shutter 8 and 18 in a closing direction A; drive means 9 and 19 which move the shutters 8 and 18 in an opening direction. A drive source for the drive means 9 and 19 is a drive transmission mechanism 28 for the fixing roller 3. Power is transmitted from the drive transmission mechanism 28 to the drive means 9 and 19 via a roller drive gear 5, so that the drive transmission mechanism 28 and the drive means 9 and 19 move in conjunction with each other.
