PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article sorting method using a sorter with a less number of branches for sorting articles into many sorting destinations while requiring facilities which have smaller sizes, smaller occupied installation areas and lower installation costs. SOLUTION: A storage buffer 11 having five lines 11a of N=5 is provided on the single side of a supply line 10 through which articles 2 are continuously supplied to all sorting destinations of E=60, and the sorter 14 is provided which has branch lanes 14a with the number of branches being an integer value M of E/N=60/5=12. Twelve sorting destinations are coordinated to be assigned to the lines, respectively. While the articles 2 in the supply line 10 is primarily sorted into lines 11a of their sorting destinations, the articles stored in the lines are delivered in sequence at time intervals of 12 minutes and secondarily sorted by the sorter 14. The articles are continuously sorted in such a manner that they are cyclically delivered and secondarily sorted five times in sequence into the lines and then cyclically and secondarily sorted five times on a 60 minute basis.
