[Also in Division C3] Surfaces, e.g. of stainless steel or glass plates, are coated with solutions of compositions comprising (A) an adduct of (1) an α, # ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic compound containing the structure: and (2) an ester of (a) at least one unsaturated fatty or unsaturated rosin acid and (b) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic monomer and alkyl alcohol or a substitution product thereof, the ester having the structure of a reaction product of 0.75-1.25 carbocyl equivalents of the unsaturated acid and 1.0 hydroxyl equivalents of the copolymer and (B) at least one epoxide or alkylated melamine-aldehyde condensate in which the alkyl group is C 1-6 . In the examples coating compositions comprised a xylene/butanol solution of a butylated melamine-formaldehyde condensate and a maleinized adduct of an oleic acid, oleic acid/ lauric acid, or soya fatty acid ester of a styrene/allyl alcohol copolymer, which may be pigmented with TiO 2 and contain butyl acid phosphate; and xylol solutions of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or a reaction product of glycerin and epichlorohydrin, an aq. solution of dodecyl-dimethyl ammonium chloride and the above copolymer esters. The coatings may be cured by heating. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,023,291. |
