An assembly to separate inorganic matter from a material soiled by organic matter has a funnel-shaped container which opens out at the top. The assembly (10) to separate inorganic matter from a material soiled by organic matter, especially sand from a sewage treatment tank, has a funnel-shaped container (12) which opens out at the top. The soiled liquid inflow (60) is at the lower or center section of the funnel-shaped container, to pass into it at a tangent. At the lower collection vessel, cleaning water is fed in through inflow openings (24) and/or air enters through air feeds (26) to pass through the vessel. The feed openings for the soiled water, cleaning water and air are supplied by pumps (50,52,54), operated by a control unit (20). The funnel-shaped container is fitted with an overflow (18).
