<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten the luminance of transmission light transmitted through aperture parts to the aperture parts having a prescribed scale, in a liquid crystal display element having a backlight. <P>SOLUTION: A light guide plate for the backlight is provided with a plurality of prisms emitting light made incident on the inner part of the light guide plate to the external part of the light guide plate by reflecting the light by reflection surfaces. The reflection surfaces of the prisms are formed so as to be extended in the direction X vertical to the direction Y to be the radial direction of a circle with an LED (light emitting diode) 21 as the center. The liquid crystal cell 1 is provided with a light reflection layer 13, the plurality of aperture parts 15 formed at the light reflection layer 13 and a condenser lens provided between the aperture parts 15 and the light guide plate.
