<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inflator capable of forming thin a seal piece such as a burst shim installed at the gas outlet of its pressure vessel, shortening the starting time of the inflator, and releasing the gas from a high pressure gas storage chamber at the time of fire. <P>SOLUTION: A bearing body 20 is fitted in an opening 42 of a housing 40, and its forefront face is made flush with the periphery of the opening 42. The burst shim 16 is overlapped on the forefront face of the bearing body 20 and the periphery of the opening 42. When the current is fed to an initiator 64, the gas is jetted out of an actuator gas jet hole 46, and a bearing plate 22 is split and moves, and the bearing body 20 is released and retreats while it is pressed by the gas pressure in the storage chamber 12, and the burst shim 16 ruptures with the gas pressure, and the opening 42 is released.
