PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite fiber comprising an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer as an ingredient, uniformly dyeable with deep colors and causing no discoloration of dyed articles, and to provide a method for producing the conjugate fiber comprising an ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer as one ingredient, simple and low cost due to its process and having no problem of working environment. SOLUTION: The fiber having a specified useful crosslinking degree is obtained by treating a conjugate fiber comprising, as one ingredient, an ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer having 25-70 mol% ethylene content, under an acidic condition, in a solvent containing a specified compound, at 100-140°C and under pressurization.
