PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing a porous ceramic film substantially free from cracks and defects and to provide a porous ceramic film obtained thereby. SOLUTION: The method for producing the porous ceramic film comprises a step of applying a ceramic film forming material to the surface of a porous support (14), a step of placing the support (14) to which the material is applied in a specific gaseous atmosphere, and a step of forming the porous ceramic film from the material while permeating the specified gas in the direction of thickness of the support in at least that area of the support (14) to which the material is applied.
