OPTICAL FIBER AND OPTICAL TRANSMISSION MEDIUM

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber having small transmission loss even at a short wavelength side such as ArF excimar laser light beams (the wavelength is 193nm) and F2laser light beams (the wavelength is 157nm) or the like.

SOLUTION: An optical fiber 10 has a circular cross section and has a plurality of holes 12 and 13 which are extended along the optical axis of the fiber in a main medium 11 made of a solid. In the cross section of the optical fiber 10, the hole 12 is located at the center position of the fiber and the many hollow holes 13 are periodically arranged surrounding the hollow hole 12. An inside of the hollow holes 12 and 13 is filled with gas or is evacuated.
