PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily and reliably detect sample ruptures and reliably identify ruptured samples in in-reactor creep rupture tests. SOLUTION: In a method for testing internal-pressure creep rupture strength, tubular samples 40 in which a high-pressure gas is sealed are housed in irradiation capsules 32, and the irradiation capsules 32 are inserted in a reactor 10 using a liquid coolant 16. Labeling gases having different isotope composition ratios are previously sealed in the samples. The occurrence of sample ruptures is detected by an onlineγ-ray monitor 52. By analyzing a cover gas through the use of a laser resonance ionization mass spectroscope 54 after the detection of rupture occurrence, the isotope composition ratio of a labeling gas which has been discharged from the sample and moved to a cover gas space is measured and compared with the isotope composition ratio of the labeling gas sealed in the sample which could have been ruptured to identify ruptured samples. By online measurement by the laser resonance ionization mass spectroscope, it is also possible to detect the occurrence of sample ruptures. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
