PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily detect anomalies of a rotary machine by monitoring both displacements of a rotating shaft of the rotary machine and variations in its rotating speed through the use of optical fibers. SOLUTION: In the apparatus, dual-wavelength light from a light source for monitoring displacements is guided to a filter through an optical fiber for light projection to project single-wavelength light to the bearing of the rotary machine and reflect light of the other wavelength at the filter. Reflected light from the wall surface of the bering and the filter is received by a two-color sensor via an optical fiber for light reception. In addition in the apparatus, blue light, red light, and green light are guided to the rotating shaft of the rotary machine through the optical fiber for light projection, and its reflected light is received by a photodiode for monitoring rotation via the optical fiber for light reception and a half mirror. A signal processor determines anomalies of the rotating machine on the basis of reflected light from the two-color sensor and the photodiode for monitoring rotation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
