PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact storage type electric water heater which eliminates the need for a storage tank and a hot water circulating line, and can supply hot water immediately after starting of hot water supply. SOLUTION: A water heater provided with an electric heater 2 in the outer peripheral direction of a water pipe 1 to heat water in the water pipe, is a storage electric water heater which has a heat reservoir 3 on the outer periphery of the electric heater 2 and can maintain the temperature of the water pipe 1 by the heat accumulated in this heat reservoir. The water heater has a second electric heater 5 different from the electric heater 2, and operates the second electric heater 5 for a constant time from the starting of water supply, so that it can deliver hot water immediately after starting of water supply.
