PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical power control device and method which does not require a fixing process of a variable resistance which is required at the time of assembling a conventional optical scanner. SOLUTION: An optical power control device having an optical scanner and a main control unit comprises a light generation section provided inside the optical scanner for generating light and an optical power control section provided outside the optical scanner and inside main control unit for controlling the quantity of the light generated by the light generation section. Because the quantity of the light can be freely controlled by the main control unit, the intensity of the printed matter can be adjusted while a printer is operated.
