PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for automatically measuring the waist width of an edible bird carcass. SOLUTION: There are provided a first guiding member and a second guiding member opposite to the first guiding member with a prescribed gap kept therebetween. The first guiding member shakes in the direction to approach and separate from the second guiding member. Furthermore, there are provided a spring for shaking and urging the first guiding member in the direction to approach the second guiding member and a rotary encoder for detecting the shaking angle of the first guiding member.
