A transfer apparatus (1) vertically transfers a vehicle body (M) between a hanging/transportation line (HL) for transporting the vehicle body (M) with the body (M) hanged from the above by a transportation hanger (H) traveling along a transportation rail (SR) and a support/transportation line (SL) for transporting the vehicle body (M) while supporting the lower side of the body (M). The transfer apparatus (1) is installed continuously from the transportation rail (SR) of the hanging/transportation line (HL) and has a lifting rail (2) on which the transportation hanger (H) can travel and a portal-type lifting apparatus (3) for vertically moving the lifting rail (2).
