PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an electrochemical element having an excellent reflow heat resistance and excellent electrolyte affinity, and having an electrolyte deterioration prevention function. SOLUTION: This separator for an electrochemical element is characteristically formed of a non-woven fabric containing a fibrillated heat-resisting organic fiber having a melting point or a thermal decomposition temperature above 250°C, and having a fiber diameter below 1μm at least at a part, and a polyester fiber formed by copolymerizing 0.1-20 mol% of one or more kinds of phosphorous compounds selected from a group of the following formulas (1), (2) and (3) and having a fineness below 3.3 dtex.
