PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas charging method of a hydraulic shock absorber, shortening the process and manufactured inexpensively. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic shock absorber, a rod guide 5 slidably guiding a piston rod 4 is provided between the opening end part of an inner tube 2 and the inside of the opening end part of an outer tube 3, an oil seal 6 is placed on the upper part of the rod guide 5, and the upper end part of the outer tube 2 is bent inside, thereby integrally caulking and fixing the outer tube 2, the oil seal 6 and the rod guide 5. One or more slit parts 2 directed toward the bottom are previously formed as a gas charging passage in the opening end part of the outer tube, and the rod guide 5 where the oil seal 6 is placed opposite to the slit parts 21 is disposed to supply gas G into a reservoir chamber R through the gas charging passage. After that, the rod guide 5 is forced down to a predetermined assembling position and the upper end part of the outer tube 3 is bent inside to be caulked and fixed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
