Breathing mask made of a synthetic foil has a passage region arranged over the mouth and/or the nose of e.g. a patient with at least one opening (5) covered with an air-permeable material. During use spacers (7) provided at the passage region hold the air-permeable material away from either the mouth or the nose involved in resuscitation and spread out the pressure applied during resuscitation. The air-permeable material together with the spacers forms a fluid barrier at least in the expiration direction of the patient. The passage region is air-permeable in both directions and during use the foil lies freely on the face so that air from the patient can freely flow away under the foil. Preferred Features: The spacers contain a hydrophobic air-permeable membrane, which covers the opening. The foil is transparent.
