During the composting process for a charge of organic waste materials, the decomposing matter features a number of physico-chemical parameters which indicate the progress and condition of the composting process. One or more of these physico-chemical process parameters is monitored by appropriate instrumentation which together with information on the outputs or products gives an indication of the rate at which the conversion process is progressing. The physico-chemical values determined representing the progress of the composting process are measured at different time intervals, and are compared with each other. If a parameter change results in an increase in the conversion ratio, the parameter change is reinforced. If the parameter change results in a decrease in the conversion ratio, the parameter change is reduced. In addition to the physico-chemical parameters measured, the quantity of the end-product or that of a conversion process is measured is measured to provide an indication of the conversion efficiency.
|
