A coated article (10) comprises a substrate (12), an inner environmental resistant coating portion (14) including Al on the substrate (12), and an outer heat energy reflecting and oxygen diffusion inhibiting coating portion (16) outward of the inner portion (14). The outer coating portion (16) is multilayer, comprising 6 - 48 discrete stacked layers (18,20) and a total outer coating portion (14) thickness in the range of about 2.5 - 25 microns.
