Hand-held cutter, especially a garden cutter with an electric motor drive has a detachable handle element that can be inserted in a handle element holder. When inserted the handle element prevents starting of the cutter with a first switching element, when not inserted the first switching element can be used, while if at attempt to use the switching element is made with the handle element inserted, the switch must be released, the handle element removed and the switch pressed again.
