Self-adhesive protective film for painted automobiles or automobile components comprises an adhesive layer of 50-99 wt.% of a polar component comprising at least one copolymer of ethylene and vinylacetate (VA) (VA content of 40-80 wt.%) and 1-50 wt.% of a nonpolar component comprising at least one weakly crystalline or amorphous main-chain saturated homo- or copolymer of 2-12C-alpha -olefins. A self-adhesive protective film (I) for painted automobiles or automobile components comprises a single- or multilayer support layer and an adhesive layer whereby the adhesive layer comprises (A) 50-99 wt.% of a polar component comprising at least one copolymer of ethylene and vinylacetate having a vinylacetate content of 40-80 wt.% and (B) 1-50 wt.% of a nonpolar component comprising at least one weakly crystalline or amorphous main-chain saturated homo- or copolymer of 2-12C-alpha -olefins. Independent claims are included for: (i) a film (I) where (B) is a copolymer of 2-12C olefin and nonconjugated dienes; (ii) a process for the production of the film (I) by coextrusion.
