Method and apparatus for providing protection and communication in underground construction sites

Secure communications method for use in underground construction sites, whereby: the construction site is divided into radio cells, each of which is assigned to a base station; the base stations (2) are linked together over a base network (3), each person or object to be monitored is allocated a mobile terminal (1) which is contact with at least one base station and; a control point (16) is provided from which the positions of persons or objects are determined based on the cell in which their mobile terminal is located. An independent claim is included for a device for implementing the inventive method.
