The steel spacer is used to connect and seal two plane parallel walls (3b,4b) of water channels (3,4) forming twin parts (1,2) of a hot water radiator. The central hole in the spacer (9) allows water to flow between the two channels. The thickness of the walls is about 1 to 1.5 mm. The sleeve (9) is designed to separate in a sealed way two parallel thin sheet steel walls (3b,4b) after electric resistance welding. The spacer is placed into two holes (3a,4a) in the walls (3b,4b). Extending from the ends of the spacer are two truncated cone sections (10,11). The first has a lesser slope than that of the second part. The sections (10,11) allow positioning of the spacer into the corresponding wall holes. When welding pressure is exerted between two spacers and the walls and welding current is applied to pre-deform the edges of the holes to bring them first into contact with the spacer parts (10) then into contact with the part (11) and to weld the edges onto the part (11). An Independent Claim is included for - a method of sealing the two walls with the spacers. |
