PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ester capable of continuously operating stably for a long period in the method for producing the ester by an esterification of a carboxylic acid with ethylene. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ester by the esterification of the carboxylic acid with ethylene using an acid catalyst is provided by controlling the concentration of >=3C olefins in the raw materials as <=10,000 ppm in molar ratio based on the total of the above materials with ethylene for markedly suppressing the deterioration of the catalyst and consequently capable of operating continuously and stably.
