Bituminous binder is modified by 3-6 wt.% styrene butadiene styrene polymer. Polymer modified bituminous binder of high cohesive strength comprises a hard base, comprising a bitumen mixed with a high viscosity hydrocarbon cut, and a soft aromatic base. This is modified by a styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) polymer in a proportion of 3-6 wt.% to give a maximum cohesion (standard T 66-037) = 1.8-2.6 J/cm<2>.
