1,221,220. Dropping from aircraft. R. ALKAN & CIE. 24 Oct., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 50441/68. Heading F3C. An automatic release device for jettisoning loads carried by aircraft comprises a gripping member solid with the aircraft adapted to be engaged by a support secured to the rear end of the load, the forward end of the load coacting with a jettisoning device controlled from within the aircraft, the arrangement being such that when the load tilts through a predetermined angle due to actuation of the said jettisoning device a member solid with the load coacts with the gripping member to unlatch it and release the load completely. In a first embodiment (Fig. 2) a member 8 attached to the rear of the load 2 is engaged by a hook 9 pivoted to a plate 5 swivably secured to the aircraft 1. A toggle device 12-17 maintains the hook 9 in its latching position until the toggle is broken, as the load swings to the dotted position, by a member 19 adjustably mounted on the load. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a pivoted hook (29) is held in its latched position by a second lever (31) which is displaced by the tilted load to free the hook, which is then swung into an unlatching position by a spring. In a third embodiment, Fig. 7, a pin 39 on plates 38 secured to the load is engaged in a groove 40 in a member 41 attached to the aircraft and secured in the groove by a nook 42. On tilting of the load the extremity of part 38 engages pins 38 extending laterally from the hook to move the latter against the spring 45 to release the load. |
