[Also in Division F2] An implement comprising a beam which carries tools and may be swung between an extended position perpendicular to the direction of travel and a folded position is characterized in that the two driving shafts 4, 5 extending co-axially through the beams 1, 2 in the extended position are connected by a dog clutch near the hinge 3 and that a friction clutch 7 is engageable to bring about the torquetransmitting condition after the dog clutch is engaged. The beam carrier 1 and beam 2 are hinged at 3 and shafts 4, 5 are journalled inside them respectively. Mounted on the end of shaft 4 is dog clutch half 6 which can move axially with the shaft and one end of the clutch is connected with the friction clutch 7 which is keyed to shaft 4 via rotary part 8. A coaxial compression spring 10 extends round this half and pin 11 attached to shaft 5 fits into recess portion 9 on the end of dog clutch half 6. The pin abuts against the spring causing the frictional faces of clutch 7 to engage. The beam is held in the extended position by dog catch 12 which is pressed against the face 16 of projection 14 by spring 13. When the beam hits an obstacle the dog 12 disengages allowing pin 11 to slip out of the recess 9 and the spring 10 to expand thus causing clutch 7 to disengage, the tools to stop, and the beam 2 to swing backwards. By reversing the tractor the beam 2 swings back to the extended position and the dog to re-engage on projection 14. The tools may be rotary scythe mowers or hay turners or tedders.
