The device has a chaining unit (9) formed of a metallic web (75) made of resistant material. A surface of the web is covered by deformable sheets (71, 73) made of ductile material, and the web is arranged for being inserted longitudinally between lips (41, 43) of arch units (1, 3). The web extends along the length of one of the lips and has a metallic fixing plate for fixing the web to a metallic web of an adjacent chaining unit. An independent claim is also included for an arch composed of arch units and a chaining device.
