PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To necessitate a cycle detection means with high accuracy at the time of pull-in to track, and to make it possible to perform pull-in to track other than the track having the slope of the targeted tracking error signals. SOLUTION: Pull-in to the track having a slope of always targeted tracking error signals is realized without switching slopes which are used by tracking error signals by slowing down the pull-in to track in an unprescribed certain direction using a voltage according to track direction traveling rate of light which is emitted by a pick-up means, detecting the difference of the cycle of tracking error signals produced thereby, and determining whether it is track having slopes of target tracking error signal.
