<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus to or from which a processing cartridge can easily be attached or detached and which ensures accurate positioning of the cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier unit 40 having an image carrier 1 and an upper stay 42 holding both ends of the image carrier 1; and the processing cartridge 16 accommodating the image carrier unit 40. In the image forming apparatus, the upper stay 42 has locking parts 43a.
