<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reproducing apparatus which always realizes reduction of power consumption by controlling an illuminating period of a laser diode which reads a signal from an optical disk. <P>SOLUTION: The trigger signal generation means 5 sends a control signal to control a laser diode control means 6 so that at the timing when a wave sampling means 4 performs sampling of a reproducing signal of a pickup 3 at startup of a trigger signal acquired from a trigger signal generation means 5, a laser diode of the pickup means 3 surely emits light, and in other periods the laser diode stops illuminating.
