摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composed of a material inexpensive than a noble metal such as platinum, in particular as a substituting catalyst of "the catalyst mediating an electrode reaction" applied to a fuel cell, and its manufacturing method, as well as an electrode catalyst for fuel cell and a fuel cell utilizing the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: This is a catalyst in which a carbonized molybdenum is carried on a carrier (fibrous carbon). This catalyst is manufactured through (1) a pretreatment process in which by using an oxidizer as the carrier, a reaction site for carrying the catalyst is introduced, (2) a carrying process in which a catalyst precursor is carried onto the reaction site introduced at the pretreatment process, (3) a carbonizing process in which the catalyst precursor carried in the carrying process is carbonized, and (4) an activating process in which the catalyst carbonized in the carbonizing process is activated.
