<p>A liquid crystal display, particularly a liquid crystal projector wherein in an operation mode other than the image display mode, particularly in a stand-by mode for power saving, at least one, preferably both of the potentials of the pixel and common electrodes of the liquid crystal cell (122) of a pixel (12) are caused to fall to the ground level so as to release ions from the alignment membrane and electrode interfaces. The ions are a factor causing image persistence produced when organic materials are decomposed by light or heat and absorbed on the alignment membrane and electrode interfaces. With this construction, it is possible to prevent image persistence caused by the fact that when the liquid crystal panel is illuminated with strong light, organic materials are decomposed by light and heat to produce ions, and the ions are absorbed on the alignment membrane and electrode interfaces.</p> |
