<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical short pulse generator which can generate an optical short pulse, easily and inexpensively. <P>SOLUTION: A CW light outputted from a CW light generation part 101 forms an optical pulse train by being modulated in its intensity by a periodic electric signal in an intensity modulation part 102. Namely, an emission line spectrum has a finite spectrum width by the intensity modulation. In a phase modulation part 103, phase modulation is imparted by applying the periodic electric signal corresponding to the intensity variation of the optical pulse. Although the optical spectrum has a chirp and the spectral width is simultaneously enlarged, it still has the chirp. Thus, the optical pulse width is compressed by a chirp compensation part 104 for providing a chirp having the sign reverse to the sign of the chirp. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
