PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a controller which can recognize and control only one function of a plurality of functions existing in a control object device to recognize and control arbitrary functions. SOLUTION: A SUBUNIT INFO response change key A3 and a SUBUNIT INFO response change key B4 corresponding to a plurality of sub-units respectively are provided, and contents of a response (SUBUNIT INFO response) to a SUBUNIT INFO command defined by an AV/C command set received from an IEEE1394 controller can be changed by these change keys A and B. A corresponding sub-unit is written in the head of the SUBUNIT INFO response by depression of the change key A or B, so that a response wherein a desired sub-unit is written in the head of the SUBUNIT INFO response can be returned to a controller which recognizes only the head of the SUBUNIT INFO response.
