PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader apparatus capable of focusing both a transmissive document readable without interposing a transparent plate and a reflection document readable through the transparent plate with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A transmissive document holder of this image reader apparatus has a support section for supporting the transmissive document on a plane to be read while the holder is transferred by a sub-scanning means. A reflection document holder is provided with the transparent plate having a main body abutting against the rear surface of the reflection document and a flat surface abutting against the front surface of the reflection document and sandwiching the document with the main body. When the reflection document holder is transferred by the sub-scanning means, the flat surface passes through a position away from the flat surface to be read at a predetermined distance, and supports the reflection document at a position where an image is clearly formed on an image sensor via the transparent plate.
