PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter comprising a lockup clutch, capable of conducting slip control, and enlarging transmission torque without changing piston size. SOLUTION: A piston 41 is disposed to separate space between a front cover 2 and a turbine 4 into a front chamber F on the side of the front cover 2 and a rear chamber R on the side of the turbine 4, and it is capable of approaching to/separating from the front cover 2 by differential pressure of fluid between the front chamber F and the rear chamber R. The piston 41 comprises a piston main body 41a, a friction facing 61, a hole part 46, and a lead valve 47. The hole part 46 enables communication between the front chamber F and the rear chamber R. The lead valve 47 regulates flow of fluid through the hole part 46 in a case where fluid pressure in the rear chamber R is higher than that in the front chamber F.
