<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-photon absorption foaming material which has a large non-resonance two-photon absorption cross-sectional area and generates gas by non-resonance two-photon absorption to form bubbles, and to provide a three dimensional index modulating material using the same, a three dimensional optical recording medium, a three dimensional display, an optical material, etc., and a three dimensional index modulating method and a recording and reproducing method for a three dimensional optical recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The two-photon absorption foaming material comprises at least a two-photon absorption compound, wherein gas is generated by two-photon absorption of the two-photon absorption compound to form bubbles.
