<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate high-quality musical sound waveforms responding to musical performance phrases and to generate waveforms with high controlling property and editing property. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of unit waveform data comprising a high-quality non-loop waveform having characteristics of articulation (performance style) or the like and a loop waveform continuing at least the top or the tail of the non-loop waveform are memorized in a memory means. The plurality of unit waveform data to be used for the performance phrases to be generated are specified by a waveform sequence, and the unit waveform data is successively read out from the memory means in accordance with the waveform sequence to generate musical sound waveforms of the performance phrases comprising the combination of the waveforms based on the unit waveform data. The musical sound waveform of a desired performance phrase comprising a plurality of musical notes can be easily generated by specifying the corresponding waveform sequence.
