PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out accurate aligning between the position of component insertion and that of a pocket on a carrier tape without moving a component insertion mechanism in a taping apparatus. SOLUTION: The taping apparatus for small components comprises a transfer mechanism including motors 7, 11 and sprockets 9, 13, the component insertion mechanism including a nozzle 35, a pocket position measuring mechanism including a CCD camera 27 and an image recognizing CPU 31 for measuring the pocket 15 at a pocket measuring position, a mobile stage mechanism including a mobile stage 21 and a motor 23 for moving the transfer mechanism to an arrowed direction B perpendicular to the proceeding direction (arrowed direction A) of the carrier tape 5, and a handler CPU 19. The handler CPU 19 aligns the position of component insertion and the pocket 15 by making adjustment in the arrowed direction A using the transfer mechanism and in the arrowed direction B using the mobile stage mechanism based on pocket measurement information from the image recognizing CPU 31.
