PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute encoder and an angle detection method capable of correctly detecting the rotary angle of a rotary shaft using a point light source. SOLUTION: On the rotary disc 3 of the absolute encoder 1, correction tracks 8a, and 8b are provided. Regarding the correction tracks 8a and 8b between the light emission element 4 and the light detector 6, the slits 7b are always arranged regardless of the rotary angle of the rotary disk 3. By the absolute encoder 1, the light incident position of the light passed through the correction track 8a (a 1st incident position 12a) and the light incident position of the light passed through the correction track 8b (a 2nd incident position 12b) are always obtained regardless of the rotary angle of the rotary disk 3. Based on the 1st incident position 12a and the 2nd incident position 12b, the corrected incident positions 13a-13i are estimated whereon the light passed through the tracks 9a-9i for angle detection is incident.
