PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lawn open space aiming at the reduction in a heat island phenomenon through retaining rainwater while protecting lawn as usual. SOLUTION: This lawn open space comprises a layered body structured on the ground, and comprises the followings sequentially layered on the ground: a vegetation base material layer where plants grow; a vegetation layer provided on the vegetation base material layer where the lawn is planted or sown; an elastic body layer provided on the vegetation layer and comprising a massive elastic body having elasticity; and a plant-protecting footboard provided so as to cover the elastic body layer and having a lot of through holes. Another version of the lawn open space comprises a layered body structured on the ground, and comprises the followings sequentially layered on the ground: the vegetation base material layer where plants grow; the vegetation layer provided on the vegetation base material layer where lawn is planted or sown; a water-bearing layer provided on the vegetation layer and comprising a porous massive body; and the plant-protecting footboard provided so as to cover the water-bearing layer and having a lot of through holes.
