<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of enhancing the discharge efficiency of chips, and capable of improving the workability by improving an approaching characteristic to a main spindle. <P>SOLUTION: When constituting this machine tool, a recessed part 2c having the opening back face side and upper side, is formed in a central part of a bed 2. A Y axis guide rail 18 and a Y axis ball screw (a driving shaft) 16 for guiding and driving a saddle 4, are arranged in left-right saddle support parts (an edge part) 2b of the recessed part 2c, and are covered with left-right Y axis cutting covers 56. The left-right Y axis cutting covers 56 are formed in an inclined shape of becoming low on the recessed part 2c side.
