<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress signal light pulses by phase modulation and wavelength spread compensation to improve the reception sensitivity even in a high density wavelength multiplex operation. <P>SOLUTION: An optical phase modulator 11 adds a frequency chirp to the optical signals P1 having propagated over an optical fiber transmission line 9, and a wavelength dispersion module 12 adds a specified wavelength dispersion thereto to pulse-compress them. A photoelectric converter 15 converts the compressed optical signals P3 to electric signals, and then a clock data reproducer circuit 16 reproduces data D and a clock C. A part of the reproduced clock C is fed back to the optical phase modulator 11 via a phase shifter 17 and an amplifier 18 as a phase modulation signal M for the modulator, thereby adding a frequency chirp synchronous with the signal light P1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
